Founding Vision & Purpose

Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama (SKJU) was formally constituted on June 26, 1926, in Kozhikode. It was established as a collective scholarly shield to protect traditional Islamic beliefs, moral values, and practices, promoting spiritual solidarity and standardizing religious education across Southwest India.

Guided by the consultative council of 40 eminent theologians known as the Mushawara, Samastha has guided the religious, educational, and social life of Kerala Muslims for over a century, advocating for peaceful coexistence, moral uprightness, and educational empowerment.

Centralized Madrassa Syllabus (SKIMVB)

Under the guidance of Sayyid Abdur Rahman Bafaqi Thangal, the Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board (SKIMVB) was founded on March 25, 1951. This historical wing revolutionized religious education by standardizing examinations, text-books, grading systems, and school inspections.

Historical Milestones

1925

Consultative Meet at Calicut

Eminent Sunni scholars convened at Calicut Valiya Juma Masjid to form a collective defensive against modernist reform groups.

1926

Official Constitution

Formal declaration of SKJU constituted at Calicut Town Hall under the patronage of Varakkal Mullakoya Thangal.

1951

Founding of Education Board

Established the centralized Madrasa syllabus, creating unified textbooks, training, and dynamic child registers.
